As a childcare professional, learning and growing are two major components to providing exceptional care. Continuing education is the best way to ensure a happy and healthy childcare atmosphere.That is why we offer the apprenticeship program to our employees! All costs for the apprenticeship programs are completely covered by our organization while you receive the School Age Child Care Credential (SACC). Focus on improving your skills while getting the on the job training hours you need.

These are part-time, flexible jobs that are perfect if you are a recent college grad, a part-time college student, taking a gap year, or are simply interested in working with youth in your community.


About the Leadership Training for Apprentices:

PROGRAM LOCATION(S): Multiple program site locations located within the Hudson Valley Region, Central Region, Western Region and Capital Region. 

School Age Child Care Credential as well as SUNY courses would be remote. On the job training hours are fulfilled at one of the Healthy Kids Programs locations.

PAY RATE: starting at $12.50/hr - $13.50 *raise in pay within the first 6 months of employment*

HOURS: part time



  • Raise in pay within the first 6 months of employment
  • On the job training
  • $5,000 scholarship to SUNY Dutchess 
  • School Age Child Care Credential 
  • Complete the program and become qualified to be a Site Director for a School Age program

About the Job Training:

REPORTS TO: Program Mentor, Regional Director

PROGRAM DATES: Follow the School District Calendar. When school is not in session employee is not paid

JOB STATUS: Part Time, Non-Exempt 

JOB SUMMARY:  Assist in caring for children enrolled in the before and/or after school program at the Healthy Kids Extended Day Programs.  


  • Completing all requirements of the apprenticeship program
  •  Providing warm, nurturing care for children during the extended day period  
  • Assist in daily activities which could include: Physical fitness activities, group games, arts & crafts activities, reading, homework completion and other activities  
  • Act in ways that ensure staff and program complies with OCFS guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program  policies and host school policies  



  • 18 years or older  
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) & 1 year experience working with children under 13  
  • High energy, engaging and a team player  
  • Must successfully pass full background check including fingerprinting and reference checks 
  • Must be medically fit to perform job duties and free of TB, current physical and TB test required prior to employment 
  • Warm, friendly, caring and upbeat personality.  
  • Excellent people skills in dealing with children, parents and staff.  
  • Professional, reliable and prompt.  
  • Loves working with children
